30 Days Ahead of the 2022 World Cup: Solo Goal Sensation Saeed Al-Owairan, Maradona from Saudi Arabia

Saeed Al-Owairan's beautiful goal in the group stage of the 1994 World Cup of the United States was never neglected for the world, especially the Saudi Arabian audience.

Saeed Al-Owairan shocked the world by doubling the goal of Argentine legend Diego Maradona.

Saeed Al-Owairan's personal actions will be one of the best goal stamps in World Cup history.

The 1994 World Cup group stage match against Saudi Arabia and Belgium was saeed Al-Owairan's performance.

Saeed Al-Owairan then led the 1-0 goal of the Saudi Arabian national team's 1-0 win over Belgium.

Al-Owairan's goal process was really beautiful and even often equated with Diego Maradona.

The then 26-year-old Saeed Al-Owairan bewitched the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium and the world for a solo run from center field.

In the fifth minute, Al-Owairan, who was on the left side, received a flat pass from Mohamed Abdu Al-Jawad.

Al-Owairan ran from the infield and through five players all the way to the Belgian penalty area, and in the end threw the ball with his right foot into the goal.

The ball from his shot successfully conquered the Belgian goalkeeper at that time, Michel Preud'homme.

This goal further brought Saeed Al-Owairan to be reunited with Diego Maradona.

The problem is that Al-Owairan is like duplicating Maradona's goal when the Argentine national team challenged England in the quarter-finals of the 1986 World Cup.

At that time, Maradona scored the opening goal with a solo run from center field, through four players and a goalkeeper just before throwing the ball into the net.

Al-Owairan admitted that his goal was similar to Maradona's, but the distance problem had a further one.

"I do it from a longer distance," Al-Owairan joked as taken by Goal International in 2018.

Al-Owairan added that he had met Maradona frequently.

"We meet often, we talk together. He is the most outstanding player. A big player, in every sense of the word and the most respectable person," Al-Owairan said of Maradona's figure.

As for Al-Owairan, who is now 55 years old, explained that his solo run goal against Belgium was the most beautiful goal of the world football's big competition.

"When I remember this competition, I just feel happy because I was able to play a role in the Saudi Arabian national team," Al-Owairan said of the 1994 World Cup.

"We reached the stage of the top 16 set. I remember the goal I put into the Belgian goal and it was the most beautiful goal of this turnmaen (World Cup)," he added.

Saeed Al-Owairan ended his career in the Saudi Arabian national team in 1998. Throughout his time in football, the Riyadh-born man has only strengthened one club, Al-Shabab.

Meanwhile, at the world level, Saeed Al-Owairan has recorded 33 caps with the Saudi Arabian national team by recording seven goals.
